The first few weeks at home with your baby are a big change for you and your family. So give yourself plenty of rest and enjoy the time with your child.
Vitamin D supplementation (Oleovit D3 drops)
- The body needs vitamin D to strengthen the bones in order to prevent rickets (softening of the bones).
- Application: daily, starting from the 6th day of life, until the child is one year old.
Mother and child check-ups
Go to the scheduled mother-child passport examinations regularly. The first examination is carried out by our pediatrician at the Schärding Clinic. The next appointment is scheduled between the 4th and 6th week of life.
Weight check
Visit the mother's consultation regularly to monitor your child's growth. The average weight gain per week should be between 150 g and 200 g.
Gynaecological check-up
Ten to twelve weeks after the birth.
If you notice the following signs, you should immediately contact your registered gynecologist or your
aftercare midwife immediately:
- redness of the breast
- pain in the abdomen or breast
- if you have a fever
- if you have foul-smelling discharge
- in case of heavy bleeding (heavier than a period)

- Postnatal care at home:
Regardless of the day of discharge, the costs for postnatal care by a midwife with health insurance are now covered by the health insurance companies. In the case of elective midwives, up to 80% of the health insurance tariff will be reimbursed.
