Flaschennahrung
Sometimes, despite all efforts, breastfeeding does not work, there is not enough breast milk or the mother has decided not to breastfeed. In this case, feed your child with a bottle. Take your time and offer your child more skin-to-skin contact. Use infant formula adapted to breast milk (pre-nutrition) for bottle feeding. If the parents are known to have allergies, use hypoallergenic formula (PRE-HA formula). You can obtain information on this from your pediatrician, midwife or nurse.
Preparation of bottle feeds
Infant formula must always be freshly prepared and must not be stored for the next meal or kept warm in a bottle warmer (or thermos flask).
PRE formula can be fed ad libitum, i.e. the child can drink as many millilitres as it needs until it is full. Pay attention to your child's signs of fullness. Do not switch to formula 1 before the 1st birthday (or 6th month of life). You will find the instructions for making infant formula on the back of the pack.
Cleaning the bottle and teat
- Rinse the teat and bottle with cold water immediately after feeding.
- Use washing-up liquid and a bottle brush for cleaning.
- Clean under warm running water.
- To protect against thrush, boil the cleaned teat and bottle in plenty of water for 5 to 6 minutes (until the child's 1st birthday) or disinfect in a vaporizer.
- Place the cleaned parts with the opening facing downwards, allow to dry and cover with a clean cloth.
